I was just thinking about, well, nothing, and it occured to me that there is like 0 functionality in the families of the kids on the show.

1) Bree's Parents are culty. So were Gemma's. Alex's mom was a moonbat, too. I assume Jules is cannon as the new girl, so her folks are pretty obviously culty.
Cult=Disfunctional

2) Taylor and Sarah's Dad left, Mom's become wicked over protective. (which is what makes it at least semi-disfunctional)

3) Jonas's parents are dead but not really.
Faking death and having your kid raised by the nanny=disfunctional

4) Daniel's folks are alcoholics.
Alcoholic = Disfunctional

Sooooo. Is it just me? Is it only to make things interesting, or is there a point?

I've always thought it was to make things interesting, yes, but also to justify why no one cares that they're high-school aged and running around the country by themselves.
